Jaroslav Svoboda is a graduate of the Glassmaking Secondary Professional School in Železný Brod. He worked as a glass cutter, and later as the head of the cut glass studio in the Center for Arts and Crafts. In the 1970s and 1980s he was the Director and one of the designers of the glassworks in Škrdlovice. In the 1990s he founded the AG Svoboda Karlov glassworks, where he produces his own designs. He focuses on designer glass as well as on his own artwork. In his freelance work he often works with the technique of fused sculpture, which he then polishes and lets the optical qualities of the glass emerge.
